73 of People Dont Know the Meaning of UV
11 June 2007
A RUB IT IN street survey revealed that 73% of people admitted to not knowing what UV stands for, and by the way it’s Ultra Violet. Furthermore, 85% had no idea what the differences between UVA and UVB rays are, and only 65% knew whether their sun lotion protected against both UVA and UVB rays.
RUB IT IN, the campaign to scrap VAT and raise awareness of sun protection, wants to get the UK to wise up to UV protection. Wherever you enjoy the sunshine, UV protection is a must. Add your name to the petition to scrap VAT on sun protection products, which is being sent to the UK Health Minister Patricia Hewett – click here to find out more.
A good quality sun lotion is essential but it should not be your only defence against harmful UV rays. From sun lotion to supplements via goggles and swimsuits with UV protection, here are some hot tips to keep you protected all summer long.
Rub it in! should be the buzzword for the Summer – sun lotion is our best defence against skin cancer. Delph sun lotion is one of the very few brands of sun lotion listed on the UK Drug Tariff, meaning that it has passed strict medical tests that prove its efficacy. At under a fiver, Delph is also one of the cheapest brands around so there’s no excuse not to Rub It In!
Cover-up
There are many ranges of Sun Protection clothing for adults and children. Many retailers stock swimwear, beach clothing and head protection with a UPF factor of 50+ designed to protect from the harshest sun!
Using these clothes in conjunction with sunblock will mean you and your kids can play for longer and feel safer in the sun.
Protect Your Eyes
When it comes to sunglasses, some brands offer better UV protection than others. Check the labels to see how much protection a pair of sunglasses offer against UV and blue light damage. As sunglasses’ UV filters stop you squinting, they can also prevent wrinkles from forming around the delicate eye area!
Fake It!
We all know that we should spend less time sun bathing, but yet we all want a fabulous tan. There are other options, of course, to toasting yourself on the beach. Check out our A-Z guide on Sunbed/Electric Tanning or Sunless Tanning for information and salons.
SunSublim is this summer’s hottest new supplement. Packed with nutrients, SunSublim has three key benefits: it prepares your skin for sun exposure, activates skin colouring and protects your skin from sun-induced aging … though of course, you still need to wear sun lotion! Your tan will develop much faster than usual, so you don’t need to spend as much time in the sun for great results.
Summer holidays are just around the corner - make sure you're taking care of your health, whilst getting that healthy glow!
